A serious motor accident occurred at Karu Bridge, between Kugbo and Nyanya in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In a statement, the Head of Public Affairs at the FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Nkechi Isa, confirmed that the accident happened at about 7:14 p.m. and involved a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) truck and several other vehicles.
According to Mark Nyam, Head of Forecasting, Response, and Mitigation at FEMA, the accident occurred when the CNG truck driver lost control on the bridge. The truck crashed into other vehicles, triggering an explosion.
Rescue teams from FEMA, the Federal Fire Service, the FCT Fire Service, the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) worked overnight to clear the scene.
The accident caused severe traffic congestion, affecting movement in and around the area. Authorities have advised motorists to remain cautious when approaching accident scenes.
They urge the public to stay at a safe distance, avoid gathering around crash sites, and follow emergency responders’ instructions to prevent further risks.
Motorists are also encouraged to ensure their vehicles are in good condition before hitting the road.
