- Green Impact Technologies (GIT) and Amped Innovation partner to address rural electricity shortage in Malawi.
- Goal: Provide electricity to 70,000 rural households by June 2024.
In rural Malawi, Green Impact Technologies (GIT) and Amped Innovation have partnered to tackle the electricity deficit. They aim to provide electricity to at least 70,000 rural households by June 2024.
The initiative aims to boost the off-grid solar energy market by raising $20 million from the Off-Grid Market Development Fund (OGMDF) or Ngwee Ngwee Ngwee Fund (NNNF), which is managed by the World Bank. Amped Innovation, based in California, will deploy WowSolar kits, including LED bulbs and charging stations for mobile phones.
Andi Kleissner, Co-CEO of Amped Innovation, stresses the importance of energy access in mitigating climate shocks on Malawi’s agricultural economy. Green Impact Technologies, led by Admore Chiumia, is mobilising 200 sales agents to distribute solar solutions using the pay-as-you-go model.
With 96 per cent of rural households in Malawi lacking electricity, this partnership offers hope for improving economic resilience and reducing poverty.
