The Togolese Agency for Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy (AT2ER) has completed the deployment of a rooftop solar PV plant at its building. The plant cost 43 million CFA francs (€65,553) and was funded by the German international development cooperation agency, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
The rooftop solar power plant has a capacity of 33 kWp and a 32-kWh electricity storage system. The plant will enable AT2ER to reduce its energy bills (by up to 25% monthly) as well as its carbon footprint. AT2ER will supply the surplus energy produced by the plant to the state-owned grid of the Togo Electricity Company (CEET).
To take advantage of this power, CEET will first have to rehabilitate its production equipment and electricity transformation stations, which are outdated and the cause of recurrent power cuts.
AT2ER was recently awarded financing of 20 billion CFA francs (€30 million) by the World Bank for the Togo Energy Sector Reform and Investment Project (Priset). The project aims to rehabilitate CEET’s facilities improving the electricity supply Lomé by 2022. The project will involve the reinforcement of medium and low voltage networks, construction of networks and the installation of connection kits.
