The Gombe State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to expand solar power generation and distribution across the state. The initiative will focus on unserved, underserved, and rural communities.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya drives the partnership. It aims to support planning, implementation, and long-term sustainability of electrification programmes in Gombe State.

The agreement covers power generation and distribution, productive use of energy, appliance sales and financing, e-mobility solutions, and agro-processing initiatives. These measures aim to boost local productivity and livelihoods.

The MoU was signed by Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources Sanusi Ahmed Pindiga and Attorney-General Zubair Muhammad Umar for the state. REA Managing Director Abba Aliyu signed for the agency, alongside its Director of Legal Services.

The deal follows a State-by-State Engagement on Rural Electrification roundtable. The event, held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, brought together government officials, investors, development partners, and energy stakeholders. The roundtable explored practical ways to expand access to clean and reliable electricity in Gombe.

Ismaila Uba Misilli, Director-General of Press Affairs, said the collaboration reinforces Gombe State’s commitment to renewable energy. He added it will drive economic growth, create jobs, improve service delivery, and promote inclusive development, especially in rural communities.
