- The City’s minister spoke with Turkish solar energy company Smart Energy about utilising youth to deploy lighting solutions.
Kampala government officials have called on Turkey officials to help address the lighting problem in the Kampala Metropolitan area. Kampala Minister Misi Kabanda stated that Smart Energy have agreed to lighten up Kampala streets via solar energy and provide jobs for the unemployed youths in the city. “We have asked and agreed that if they can put a solar plant here in Kampala using the manpower of the youth in the slums of Kampala, then that will not only address the unemployment challenge but also lighten up the city,” she added.
The first phase of the lighting project is expected to commence in August.
