Green Energy Park to Provide Solar Solutions for Electric Mobility in Morocco

  • IRESEN and Green Energy Park will deploy solar solutions for the development of electric mobility in Moroccan cities.
  • This is part of a partnership on sustainability that it recently concluded with Vivo Energy Maroc, the commercial representative of the oil company Shell.

Never before has Morocco’s need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), notably in the transportation industry, been so urgent. The international testing, research, and training platform Green Energy Park, which specializes in solar solutions, and Vivo Energy Maroc, which markets fuels from the Anglo-Dutch company Shell in the Kingdom of Morocco, are both participants in this decarbonization process. An agreement for the implementation of technology and charging stations for electric vehicles was recently reached by the two businesses.

The main reason the two businesses decided to combine their sustainability plans is to hasten the energy transition. In order to reduce energy consumption, Vivo Energy Maroc also wants to install photovoltaic panels at 30 Shell stations per year.

Morocco’s first electric car charging station was installed earlier in 2020 by a firm headquartered in the village of Ben Guerir, 257 kilometers from Rabat, the country’s capital. The “iSmart” installation has a 50 kW power output and a 30-minute electric wire charging time. The recent establishment of the intersectoral professional association for electric mobility (Apime) should strengthen the deployment of such infrastructures in the upcoming years.

The new organisation backed by the National Federation of Electricity, Electronics and Renewable Energies (FENELEC) declared in March 2023 that it will set up 2,500 new electric vehicle charging stations by 2026. The distribution of these installations will take place in Tangiers, Rabat, and Casablanca, three of the major Moroccan towns.
