GreenGo Plans $8.75bn Green Energy Park in Denmark

A green energy park powered by 4 GW of wind and solar energy is being planned by Danish solar developer GreenGo Energy Group a/s to create more than 1 million tonnes of green fuels yearly.

The energy park, known as Megaton, will be built in the western Danish municipality of Ringkbing-Skjern and will cost about $8.75 billion.

A 2-GW electrolysis plant will be a part of the integrated project, and it should start operating before 2030.

A combination of solar and wind energy will be used to power the park’s production of green fuels; 2 GW will come from onshore wind and solar projects in the municipality that are part of GreenGo Energy’s development portfolio, and an additional 2 GW will come from the company’s offshore wind development portfolio in Denmark.

The combination of the energy sources is anticipated to produce 11.5 TWh annually and assure the electrolysis plant’s steady and balanced operation. In the energy park, more than 85% of the energy will be used to produce green fuels. The remaining heat and energy will be supplied into the community’s district heating system and used for new industries like greenhouses and vertical farming.

GreenGo Energy will partner on the mega project with the Ringkøbing-Skjern municipality which sees great potential for creating value in the region. The initiative will create between 300 and 500 permanent local jobs and lead to new business opportunities such as vertical farming.
