- GridStor acquires 450 MW/900 MWh battery storage project in Texas from Balanced Rock Power.
- The “Evelyn” project enhances Texas grid resilience, with construction starting this summer.
GridStor, a US energy storage company, has acquired a significant battery storage project in Texas from utility-scale developer Balanced Rock Power. The project, boasting a capacity of up to 450 MW and 900 MWh, has undisclosed financial specifics.
The proposed battery energy storage system, “Evelyn”, is set to be installed in Galveston County, Texas. The energy storage system aims to address peak power demands within the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT).
Construction starts as early as this summer. This is to enhance the resilience of the Texas electric grid, particularly during peak demand and disturbances.
GridStor’s initiative aligns with efforts to bolster power supply reliability in Texas. The project’s proximity to an existing substation owned by Texas New Mexico Power ensures efficient grid connectivity.
They anticipate the operational integration of the project by spring 2025. Current engineering and procurement activities are underway.
Leading suppliers and contractors actively participate in project development. Chris Taylor, CEO of GridStor, headquartered in Oregon, praised Balanced Rock Power’s site selection and early development efforts, emphasising the project’s potential to contribute significantly to electric reliability in Texas.
