The 40-MW Khoumagueli solar project in Guinea has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the national utility Electricite de Guinee (EDG). The plant will be the first grid-connected solar PV plant in the West African nation.

InfraCo Africa is developing the project with support from Aldwych Africa Developments Ltd and the French solar developer Solveo Energie SAS. The Khoumagueli solar plant will complement the 75-MW Garafiri hydroelectric plant to increase the grid’s renewable energy supply. The plant is also expected to abate issues arising from fluctuating water levels in the hydroelectric power plant.
InfraCo Africa’s CEO illes Vaes commented that “the signing demonstrates the ongoing commitment of EDG and the Government of Guinea to developing the country’s clean energy sector.”
InfraCo Africa is part of the Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG), receiving funding from the UK, the Netherlands and Switzerland governments via PIDG’s publicly funded trust.
