- Abubakar Sambo advocated for resolving the electricity deficit by utilising modern technologies and tree planting to capture carbon emissions.
Former Director General of the National Energy Commission, Professor Abubakar Sambo, has stated that Nigeria can tackle its electricity deficit by effectively harnessing its oil and gas resources and utilising modern technologies.
He emphasised that Nigeria can achieve controlled carbon emissions through emissions capture and storage and by promoting tree planting.
Sambo stated this at the inaugural “Chemistry in Energy +” conference, organised by the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Professorial Chair in Petroleum Chemistry at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
The former NEC DG highlighted the potential of Nigeria’s gas resources during the conference themed “Sustainable Chemistry and Chemical Technology in Energy Transmission.”
He noted that optimising these resources could significantly improve the country’s energy supply, addressing the public demand for energy. Sambo, also a former Vice Chancellor of ATBU, Bauchi, and President of the Nigerian Academy of Science, underscored the importance of leveraging all available gas resources to improve energy provision remarkably.
On his part, Mr Mustafa Sugungun, managing director of KRPC, said Nigeria needed to focus more on ensuring energy availability, sustainability, and affordability through adequate utilisation, conversion, and conservation for national development using modern technologies.
Sugungun, represented by his Technical Assistant, Abdulmutallib Shehu Shagari, noted that technical training was crucial for driving a revolutionised process for innovative impact that would shape the future of the country’s quest for sustainable energy production.
