From January next year, the Heineken Experience centre, international offices and part of the Heineken breweries in the Netherlands will be powered by renewable energy. Heineken has signed Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with Eneco and Pure Energie to procure electricity from their Fryslân and De Rietvelden wind farms.

Heineken’s breweries in the Netherlands are already partly powered by solar (including rooftop PV) and wind energy. This deal will see the contribution of clean energy to the company’s mix increase considerably as the Den Bosch brewery will now operate from 100% renewable energy. Heineken’s largest European brewery in Zoeterwoude will run exclusively on renewable energy from 2024.
Eneco currently supplies Heineken 21,000 MWh from the Barrepolder wind farm annually. The Fryslân wind farm will supply an additional 66,000 MWh, while the De Rietvelden wind facility will supply 95,000. This new agreement will bring Heineken’s annual renewable energy consumption to 124,900 MWh, equivalent to the electricity consumption of 41,300 households.
