Hindustan Power Signs MoU with Assam Government

  • Hindustan Power has signed an MoU with the Assam government to invest Rs 620 crore in renewable energy projects, including a 100 MW solar plant and 100 MW battery storage facility.
  • The projects, set to boost Assam’s energy infrastructure, are expected to create over 5,000 man-days of employment and contribute to the state’s renewable energy goals.

Hindustan Power announced on Monday that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Assam government, India to invest Rs 620 crore in renewable energy and battery power storage projects. The MoU was signed during the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit in Guwahati, underlining Hindustan Power’s commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions.

The company plans to invest Rs 500 crore in developing a 100 MW solar power plant and Rs 120 crore in a 100 MW battery storage facility. These projects align with Hindustan Power’s ambitious target to build a 5 GW energy portfolio over the next three years, marking a significant step in Assam’s renewable energy journey.

The initiative, developed in collaboration with the Assam government, is set to enhance the state’s energy infrastructure and create substantial employment opportunities, generating over 5,000 man-days, according to the company.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma and key dignitaries, including the Minister of Energy, Skill, Employment & Entrepreneurship, Prasanta Phukan, and senior officials from Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL).

Ratul Puri, Chairman of Hindustan Power, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Assam’s dynamic landscape offers immense potential, and we are excited to deepen our commitment to the state, contributing to its renewable energy goals.”

He also acknowledged Chief Minister Sarma’s visionary leadership, which has made Assam an attractive destination for investment. This collaboration represents a significant step forward in Assam’s renewable energy sector, positioning the state as a key player in India’s energy transition.
