The Chairman of the governing council of the Hydro-Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) has pledged to support host communities of the Hydroelectric producing areas. The Chairman, Honorable Joseph Terfa Ityav made this known at the inaugural meeting of the council in Minna, Niger state.
Speaking to Journalists, Hon. Ityav said, “Our mandate is to set up structures, assembly financial and human and material resources and partner international and local agencies towards redressing those cumulative challenges”. He also noted that machinery will be put in place to fulfil the objects of the commission while promising to carry all stakeholders along.
Also in attendance at the ceremony was the Commission’s Managing Director, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa. Alhaji Yelwa stated, “The Commission shall Formulate policies and guidelines for the development of hydroelectric power producing areas; Conceive, plan and implement, in accordance with set rules, projects and programmes for the development of hydroelectric power producing areas”.
The states under the jurisdiction of the commission are Niger, Kwara, Kogi, Kebbi, Benue, Plateau, and Sokoto.
