Huawei has launched its next-gen Mini-Grid “iPowerCube-S” clean energy solution in Nigeria. The iPowerCube-S integrates solar, grid-power, and diesel generator and battery storage. The iPowerCube-S system is a high-power solar power system developed for areas where grid power is unavailable. It features efficient energy yield, reliable power supply, and intelligent operation and maintenance (O&M). As a comprehensive and systematic solution, this system utilises a modular design and provides intelligent monitoring. It supports solar input, three-phase four-wire AC output, and online capacity expansion of
power modules.
The launch conference was held at the Huawei office in Abuja on the 21st of April, 2021, attended by the Executive Director, Rural Electrification Fund (REF), and Dr Sanusi Ohiare and executives of top off-grid energy companies, among others.
Speaking at the launch, Mr Michael Zhuang, Huawei Nigeria Enterprise Business Managing Director, stated that “Huawei has continuously supported Nigeria to improve the electricity access rate for remote area and reduce the electricity cost for commercial & Industry customers in Nigeria.” He also noted that “Huawei partnered with Green Village Electricity (GVE) Projects Limited, to build a 334KW mini-grid power plant to provide reliable electricity to 1,972 Households, 273 Commercial Users, 5 Productive Users and 19 Public Users in the community to improve the socio-economic life of the community.”

The MD of GVE, Engr. Ifeanyi Orajaka noted that GVE’s partnership with Huawei was borne out of the need for an OEM that provides solutions that meet its requirements – scalability, modularity in design and fast deployment. “GVE is quite satisfied with the performance of the Huawei PowerCube 5000 system deployed at Shimankar village and are quite willing to engage with Huawei for other upcoming projects. ” Orajaka added.
Speaking about Huawei’s contribution to the Commercial & Industrial (C&I), Michael Zhuang noted that Huawei Smart Inverter is currently being used in the Jabi Lake Mall 609KW Solar Hybrid project. Zhuang stated that “in the future, Huawei will continue to innovate and cooperate openly. Huawei aims to become the most trusted solar power solution provider in Nigeria. “Huawei’s ultimate vision is to bring reliable, green and affordable power to every industry, organization, and home, to bridge the electricity divide,” he added.
Havenhill Synergy Limited at the event also signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Huawei to adopt this technology in 22 sites in the first phase of its mini-grid project. This project is expected to provide electricity supply for over 70,000 unconnected people.
