The Government of Hungary has launched a new tender under its METAR incentive programme that seeks to award contracts for 864GWh of power from renewable energy sources.
The call was opened by the Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority (MEKH) and is the country’s sixth renewable tender round. Proposals will be accepted between March 25, 2022, and March 28, 2022. According to the proposal document, the regulator aims to contract 144GWh of power from renewable energy plants with capacities of between 5MW and 20MW, while the bulk of the tendered power, 720GWh, will come from plants in the 20MW – 50MW category.
According to Renewablesnow, the METAR renewables incentive programme was launched in Hungary in 2017. However, results from the last completed tender, which commenced in November 2021, have not been published, and the previous edition was cancelled. The third procurement exercise resulted in contracts for 299GWh of power from 183MW of solar photovoltaic (PV). No other source won a contract. The weighted average price in small and large plant categories was HUF 21.26 (USD 0.06) per kWh and HUF 16.15/kWh, respectively.
