- Vivo Energy is commissioning a hybrid power plant at the Nampala mine in Mali.
- The mine is located in the Niono circle and is operated by the Canadian mining company Robex Resources.
A hybrid solar power plant is being built in Mali thanks to the collaboration of Robex Resources and Vivo Energy. The facility provides the Nampala gold mine in the Segou region’s Niono circle with clean electricity. The construction of the solar PV power facility by the two partners is scheduled for 2020. The plant can produce 3.9 MWp.
Vivo Energy has been providing fuel and lubricants for the thermal power plant that currently powers the Nampala gold mine up until now. Sterling and Wilson, an organisation based in Mumbai, India, completed the recently commissioned facility’s engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC). The project implementation agreement also included installing a 2.6 MWh battery storage system by Vivo Energy, which is a way for Canadian mining company Robex Resources to reduce the carbon footprint of its facilities in Mali.
Robex Resources and Vivo Energy want to expand their relationship to the Kiniero gold mine to capitalise on the success of the Nampala solar project in Mali. Accordingly, Vivo Energy will construct a hybrid solar power facility at this location in the Kouroussa prefecture of east-central Guinea for the activities of Sycamore Mining. Therefore, this business has announced a merger with Robex Resources.
The mining business with headquarters in Quebec, Canada, claims that Vivo Energy would meet more than 40% of the energy requirements of the Kiniero mine in Guinea with its future sustainable energy generation facilities, preventing the release of 27,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent annually. The 1.5 million ounces of resources at this mining site, which is 600 kilometres from Conakry, the capital, are estimated.
