- iAccess Energy and Ampt announced a 7 MWp DC-coupled PV-plus-storage project in Germany with 4 MW / 8 MWh battery storage and a 4.4 MWAC inverter.
- The system uses Ampt String Optimisers and a battery-centric design to maximise energy output, lower costs, and create revenue through energy trading and grid services.
iAccess Energy, a leading developer of turnkey photovoltaic (PV) power plants, and Ampt, the top DC optimiser company for large-scale PV systems, have launched a new DC-coupled PV-plus-storage project in Germany.
The project integrates Ampt technology with iAccess Energy’s innovative solutions to deliver outstanding returns for asset owners. It includes 7 MWp of ground-mounted PV solar, a 4 MW / 8 MWh (2-hour) battery energy storage system (BESS), and a 4.4 MWAC inverter. It incorporates SMA inverters, batteries from a top-tier supplier, and Ampt String Optimisers for efficient power management.
Furthermore, the solar storage project stands out for its fully integrated, DC-coupled storage solution built around a battery-centric design. This approach creates multiple revenue streams, such as peak-shifting, grid services, and energy trading, without depending on subsidies.
Ampt String Optimisers perform maximum power point tracking (MPPT) on each PV string, enabling the system to maximise energy production and deliver power while following the battery’s voltage profile during charging and discharging.
Thanks to its rapid response capabilities, this battery-centric configuration supports grid services like fast frequency regulation. The design also cuts costs by requiring fewer inverters and transformers, improving efficiency and lowering power management expenses.
Ampt technology minimises wiring and labour costs, allowing more PV power to connect to the battery and inverter. This setup boosts profitability through time-shifting and energy trading, enabling batteries to charge while the system exports power to the grid.
Michael Rieber, Chief Executive Officer of iAccess Energy, stated, “As a long-term investor and operator of the power plants we develop, iAccess focuses on delivering maximum value to our customers. We selected Ampt because their technology offers the best solution and is supported by a highly technical and responsive team.”
Juan Romera-Wade, Senior Sales Director at Ampt, commented, “iAccess combines its development and ownership expertise with strong engineering and financial capabilities to create a best-in-class solution. The project we’ve announced today is just the beginning, and we look forward to future collaborations with the iAccess team.”
iAccess Energy is developing over 40 projects using this advanced DC-coupled PV-plus-storage solution, offering landowners, renewable investors, and asset owners opportunities. Both companies will present the solution at Intersolar Europe in Munich from May 7 to 9.
