To secure an off-taker for a portion of the energy output from its 315-MW Windanker offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea, Iberdrola said on Thursday that it has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Mercedes-Benz Group AG.
According to Iberdrola, Mercedes-Benz will purchase electricity produced by a 140 MW fraction of Windanker’s anticipated total capacity under the terms of the deal.
In 2027, the electricity supply is scheduled to start. Iberdrola anticipates completing Windanker’s commissioning in the same year.
According to Iberdrola, Mercedes-Benz is the Windanker wind farm’s biggest offtaker. The information was released one day after the utility said that Amazon.com Inc. had agreed to purchase Windanker’s output as part of a larger agreement.
“The agreement with Mercedes-Benz Group AG is a crucial step that enables Iberdrola Deutschland to strengthen collaborations with industrial and commercial customers who are eager to lower their carbon footprints and make the switch to a green economy. We can successfully construct large-scale renewable energy projects using market-based procedures through partnerships like these, according to Felipe Montero, CEO of Iberdrola Germany.
