Iberdrola to Construct Green Hydrogen Filling Station in Barcelona

  • Iberdrola is set to build a green hydrogen filling station in Barcelona.
  • The project is being funded by Spain’s ICO and the EU’s Connecting Europe Facility.

Spanish energy giant Iberdrola has secured debt financing from government lender Instituto de Credito Oficial (ICO) to finance the construction of green hydrogen filling station for Barcelona’s public transit operator.

The €6 million ($7.1 million) loan will be augmented by a €3.7 million grant from the European Union’s ‘Connecting Europe Facility.’ Last year, the metro and bus operator Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) selected Iberdrola to supply green hydrogen for its new fuel cell buses. The 10-year agreement also includes constructing a hydrogen filling station within the city’s industrial park Zona Franca.
