Imo State Teams Up With NDPHC for Power Boost

The Imo State Government has teamed up with the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) to enhance electricity supply. This partnership aims to complete the 378.3 MW Egbema Power Plant and other critical infrastructure projects.

Governor Hope Uzodinma confirmed this collaboration during a meeting with the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, at the Government House in Owerri. The announcement followed an inspection of the Egbema Power Plant with NDPHC Managing Director Chiedu Ugbo. Minister Adelabu praised Governor Uzodinma’s dedication to these projects.

The partnership includes completing the 330/33kV switchyard, the Omoku-Egbema-Owerri-Alaoji 330kV DC transmission lines, and expanding the Owerri transmission substation. These projects will improve electricity distribution in Imo State and beyond.

Minister Adelabu also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing the 2023 Electricity Act, which allows states to play a more active role in the electricity sector. He commended Governor Uzodinma’s commitment to working with NDPHC to speed up these vital power projects.

The collaboration aims to energise homes and businesses, boost the local economy, and contribute to national growth. The NDPHC, owned by the federal government, states, and 774 local government councils, plans to transform the electricity landscape in Imo State with the support of the state government and other stakeholders.

This initiative marks a significant step towards improving electricity infrastructure and ensuring reliable power supply in Imo State. It signifies an important milestone in the state’s development agenda, promising better power availability for residents and businesses.
