India Adds 1.5GW Utility-Scale Solar Capacity in Q2 2021

  • Total solar capacity reduced by 30%
  • Total clean energy capacity reaches 96.95GW
  • The country is on track to add 56GW over the next four years.

India added 1.5GW of utility-scale solar capacity in Q2 2021; this figure is 30 per cent lower than that installed in Q1 2021. However, according to a recent market report by JMK Research, India added only about 475MW of wind, a 56 per cent lower than the previous quarter. Also, solar rooftop installation decreased by 55 per cent to 417MW. The report further adds that India’s cumulative installed clean energy capacity as of the end of June clocked 96.95GW.

Solar is still the largest contributor to clean electricity generation at 44 per cent, with wind contributing 41 per cent of the share. The report adds that the current pipeline of solar, wind and hybrid projects will likely add 56GW over three to four years. The report estimates the addition of 10.3GW of utility-scale solar capacity and 2.8GW of wind capacity in 2021.
