India, EU Boost Clean Energy Ties

  • The India–EU clean energy partnership will support broader cooperation in solar, wind and green hydrogen.
  • This will also advance joint climate action and long-term sustainability.

India and the European Union have taken another step to deepen their cooperation on clean energy and climate action. On Thursday, November 20, Sibi George, Secretary (West) at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), met Ditte Juul Jorgensen, Director-General for Energy at the European Commission.

Together, they reviewed ongoing work under the India–EU Clean Energy and Climate Partnership. Their discussions covered key sectors, including solar power, wind energy, and the fast-growing green hydrogen industry.

Moreover, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed the progress in a post on X, noting that both sides remain committed to strengthening cooperation. He also said the partnership continues to grow in ambition and scope. Clean energy, he added, remains central to India–EU relations.

In a separate engagement, India and Denmark held the 8th round of Foreign Office Consultations in New Delhi on Monday. The talks were co-chaired by Secretary (West) Sibi George and Lotte Machon, State Secretary for Foreign Policy at the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They reviewed progress under the India–Denmark Green Strategic Partnership and the Joint Action Plan for 2021–26.

During the consultations, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to closer collaboration across several sectors. They discussed political engagement, trade, investment, renewable energy and sustainability. They also examined cooperation in clean technologies, the circular economy, shipping, water management, agriculture and food processing.

In addition, they explored joint work in research, development and mobility. Both sides agreed to deepen cooperation in defence, security, emerging technologies and Arctic affairs.

Furthermore, the two countries repeated their shared resolve to combat terrorism in all its forms. This standard position continues to guide broader strategic cooperation.

Denmark, a trusted EU partner, reaffirmed its support for the swift conclusion of an India–EU Free Trade Agreement. The commitment came during Denmark’s ongoing EU Council Presidency. Both countries exchanged views on regional and global issues and agreed to strengthen multilateral cooperation.

Finally, the MEA stressed that India and Denmark remain committed to advancing cooperation under the broader India–EU Strategic Partnership. Denmark again confirmed its backing for a timely, ambitious and mutually beneficial trade agreement. The consultations also covered coordination at the United Nations and on Arctic matters, showing the growing global reach of the partnership.
