India Reaches 10 GW Solar, 20 Lakh Farmers Benefit

  • PM-KUSUM actively drives renewable energy adoption, with over 10 GW solar capacity installed and 20 lakh farmers benefiting.
  • The Centre actively released ₹7,106 crore, ensuring states implement projects efficiently and support energy self-reliance in agriculture.

India has achieved a significant milestone under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM), with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy reporting that 10,203 MW of solar capacity has been installed across the country as of November 30, 2025. The update was provided by Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.

The scheme continues to operate as a demand-driven model, allocating capacity based on proposals and implementation progress submitted by states and union territories. It encourages participation from individual farmers as well as collectives, including Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), Water User Associations (WUAs), and Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS). This inclusive approach ensures that small and marginal farmers receive targeted support.

So far, the Centre has released ₹7,106 crore to states under the scheme, with disbursements guided by project demand and progress reports from State Implementing Agencies (SIAs). The PM-KUSUM programme now operates in all states and union territories, reflecting its national significance. To streamline processes and accelerate deployment, the Ministry issued revised comprehensive guidelines on 17 January 2024, prioritising farmers who adopt micro-irrigation technologies. Additionally, the Ministry has conducted capacity-building workshops, review meetings, and outreach campaigns to support effective implementation.

Data presented in Parliament highlights varying levels of solar installation across states. Rajasthan, Haryana, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh have emerged as leading contributors under the scheme’s different components. Under Component-A (decentralised renewable energy generation), Rajasthan installed 466.75 MW, against a sanctioned capacity of 5,250 MW. In Component-B, focusing on standalone solar pumps, Maharashtra (4,66,719 installations), Haryana (1,80,564), and Rajasthan (1,15,584) recorded strong deployment. Meanwhile, Component-C, targeting grid-connected agricultural pumps, saw significant progress in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan.

By November 2025, 20,42,459 beneficiaries, including FPOs, have availed themselves of benefits under PM-KUSUM. Maharashtra leads with over 11.21 lakh beneficiaries, followed by Rajasthan (2.35 lakh), Gujarat (2.28 lakh), Haryana (1.80 lakh), and Uttar Pradesh (72,417). The scheme has been instrumental in reducing farmers’ reliance on diesel and grid electricity, lowering irrigation costs, and helping them become energy self-reliant.

Through PM-KUSUM, India demonstrates its commitment to clean energy in agriculture, ensuring sustainable irrigation solutions while promoting energy security and economic resilience for farmers nationwide.
