The government of India has stated that the nation’s electricity grid has repeatedly faced cyberattacks in recent months. Four of India’s five regional centres that help oversee the country’s crucial electricity load management faced cyberattacks.

The Union Minister for Power and Renewable Energy R. K. Singh, in a statement, said four of India’s five regional centres in charge of electricity load management faced at least 30 daily cyberattacks in recent months. He added that protective measures had been put in place to protect the grid.

”Some unsuccessful cyber attempts were reported from various agencies in the recent past. On receipt of such information, immediate measures are taken for isolation and other compliance measures by the respective organization,”  Singh wrote.

The cyberattacks occurred at the Southern Regional Load Despatch Centre (SRLDC), Western Regional Load Despatch Centre (WRLDC), Northern Regional Load Despatch Centre (NRLDC) and North Eastern Regional Load Despatch Centre (NERLDC) of Power System Operation Corporation (POSOCO), NTPC Kudgi and Telangana State Transco.

According to the Minister, “Necessary isolation and other protective measures have been taken by these organizations,” the statement read.
