Innergex Enters France with Solar-Farm Hybrid Projects

  • Innergex secures approval for two 32 MW agrivoltaic solar projects in France, marking its entry into the country’s photovoltaic market.
  • Projects to launch in 2027, integrating solar power with agriculture to support local farmers and optimise land use.
  • The company expands its European footprint, managing 91 renewable assets and planning over 10,288 MW for future developments.

Canadian renewable energy producer Innergex énergie renouvelable Inc. secured approval for two agrivoltaic solar projects in France, marking its entry into the country’s photovoltaic market.

The Energy Regulation Commission (CRE), France’s independent energy authority, approved the 32-megawatt projects in Joux-la-Ville, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. After winning a national renewable energy tender, Innergex included them in its Grenier des Essences portfolio.

The company plans to start operations in 2027. It will sell the electricity under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) that aligns with France’s renewable energy support policies.

Innergex collaborated with local authorities and farmers to develop these projects. The agrivoltaic approach combines solar energy generation with agriculture. Farmers will grow aromatic and medicinal plants alongside the solar panels, ensuring continued land use.

The company must secure permits and finalise contracts before construction begins. It will also comply with French regulations on urban planning, environmental protection, and grid connection.

These projects strengthen Innergex’s presence in Europe. The company manages 91 renewable energy assets with 3,737 MW of installed capacity. It considers France a key market for solar expansion.

Innergex continues to expand beyond hydro and wind energy. It operates in Canada, the U.S., France, and Chile, with 16 projects in development worldwide.

The company aims to add 1,537 MW from ongoing construction. Its development pipeline exceeds 10,288 MW.
