- TCN has decried that vandals have again destroyed two of its newly reconstructed towers
Insecurity in Nigeria has yet to let any sector, including the electricity sector, experience full development as it has an untold impact on the investment made in the electricity infrastructure. This time around, it is the turn of the newly rebuilt tower along Damaturu-Maiduguri Line attacked.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said that vandals have again destroyed two of its newly reconstructed towers, T193 and T194, along the Damaturu-Maiduguri 330kV Single Circuit Transmission Line.
TCN lines engineers, along with security operatives, patrolled the line and discovered that towers 193 and 194 along the 330kV transmission line were brought down using an explosive device, whose fragments are scattered at the site of the incident.
TCN general manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said that after the line tripped, TCN engineers tried to close the Mulai-Damaturu line to enable bulk transmission of electricity, but this failed repeatedly.
The company said it is currently assessing the situation to decide on the best approach to ensuring the temporary restoration of the power supply. At the same time, a contractor has been mobilised to rebuild the two transmission towers.
TCN added that they would do everything possible to protect our transmission towers with the assistance of security operatives. They also call upon the government and well-meaning Nigerians to join in the fight against the destruction of our collective national assets.
Towers T193, T194 and T195 were destroyed by vandals using similar improvised explosive devices (IEDs) on December 28, 2023
