- Bushehr plant back on the grid
- Was out for regular maintenance for a duration of two weeks
- Iran currently experiencing increased power outages
Iranian Bushehr nuclear power plant has become operational after nearly two weeks off the grid over a regular maintenance operation, Deputy Head of the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran Mahmoud Jafari announced. According to Jafari, the plant was down due to a technical fault that has been fixed. The Bushehr plant, which is Iran’s only nuclear plant, is a 1000MW capacity nuclear reactor located on the country’s southern coast.
According to the statement released by the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran two weeks ago, the nuclear power plant was shut down due to a technical fault. ”Following a technical fault at Bushehr power plant, and after a one-day notice to the energy ministry, the plant was temporarily shut down and taken off the power grid”, the statement read.
Since May, Iran has been experiencing power outages, and its Energy Ministry blames high temperatures, the drought impacting hydropower generation, and increasing electricity demand.
