- Al Anbar Governorate awards solar contracts to two UAE investment groups.
Iraq’s largest province, Al Anbar Governorate, plans to award a contract to two UAE investment groups to deploy solar power projects with a combined capacity of 150MW.
Deputy governor Jassim Abdullah informed Iraq’s official newspaper Al-Sabaah that the province has prepared five locations for solar parks in collaboration with the electricity ministry. Abdullah stated that efforts are underway to streamline procedures for assigning land for the province’s first solar projects. According to him, these procedures may serve as a reference for other governorates to accelerate the implementation of such tasks.
After the formal signing of the contracts with the Emirati companies whose identities were not revealed, the projects should be completed within a year or a half. The proposed solar projects should help the governorate address the province’s electricity crisis.
