Ireland’s Grid Warnings Unsettle FDI Community – IDA to CRU

  • Ireland’s grid warnings unsettle investors
  • IDA suggests supply challenges be resolved to meet growing demand

The Irish Industrial Development Agency (IDA) has stated that the recent grid warnings issued by the Irish grid operator have unsettled the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) community. In a submission to the Commission for the Regulation of Utilities (CRU), the IDA has said the alerts ”are causing disquiet in the foreign direct investment community.”

The IDA points out that multinational investors highly regard the grid system’s stability as one of Ireland’s traditional strengths. The IDA further stresses the need for these supply challenges to be resolved as soon as possible to calm the nerves of investors.

The Irish electricity market regulators, last winter, issued several “amber alerts”, warning that demand in the Dublin area was close to capacity, with the risks of power outages.
