Italy Adds 2.48 GW of Solar in 2022 to Break Through 25 GW

  • There were 678 MW of installations in the commercial and industrial sector and 571 MW in the utility-scale sector.

According to trade group Italia Solare’s analysis of data from grid operator Terna, Italy added 2.48 GW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity in 2022, bringing the country’s total solar installation to slightly over 25 GW by the end of the year.

The impact of the Superbonus support program for house improvements may be seen in the fact that residential systems made up 1.1 GW of the 2022 additions. There were 678 MW of installations in the commercial and industrial sector and 571 MW in the utility-scale sector.

The total number of new solar systems last year increased by 164% over 2021, but they are still far short of 2030 goals, according to the group.

The data, it continued, demonstrate that the current measures are insufficient, and it was demanded that urgent interventions be made. These included measures to allow for simplifications, particularly for large-scale plants, and assistance for businesses to facilitate easier access to bank financing.
