Italy Approves Terna’s Adriatic Link Project

  • Italy approves Terna’s 1GW Adriatic Link project for enhanced power exchange.

Italy greenlights Terna SpA’s plan to create a 1-gigawatt submarine connection for the Adriatic link project in the Adriatic Sea. The aim is to enhance power exchange between northern and southern Italy.

The Ministry of Environment and Energy Security has granted the Adriatic Link project permission. Terna plans to invest EUR 1.3 billion (USD 1.4 billion) in the initiative.

The project will establish a 250-kilometre cable route between Abruzzo and Marche regions. It includes two submarine cables spanning 210 kilometres underwater. Italian cable manufacturer Prysmian SpA will supply and lay the power cables.

The first half is expected to be completed in 2028.
