J-Power, an electric power development company, has commenced commercial operations of the 14.85MW new Sarakitomanai Wind Farm on Hokkaido Island following the completion of the renovation works. J-Power announced today that its subsidiary J-Wind Co Ltd has replaced nine old wind turbines with an individual capacity of 1,650 kW and four 4.3MW turbines supplied by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA.
With the start of commercial operations of the new wind plant, the company’s wind power generation business now has a total output of 766.19MW in Japan, of which 210.68MW are in Hokkaido alone. This portfolio includes assets in operation, being updated, under construction, and planning facility replacement. J-Power noted that Sarakitomanai Wind is another step in the company’s goal of achieving net zero in its power generation business by 2050.
