- Japan Display has installed a 2.4MW rooftop solar PV array in China.
- The plant is expected to fulfil 20 per cent of the firm’s daytime power consumption.
Japanese display technology company has announced the installation of a 2.4MW rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) array into operation for a subsidiary in China.
According to the firm, the project was constructed on the Suzhou JDI Electronics Inc (SE) manufacturing plant in eastern China. It should be able to meet around 20 per cent of SE’s daytime power consumption.
SE’s on-site solar system covers an area of about 20,000 sq m (215,278 sq ft) on the company’s factory roof in Suzhou, west of Shanghai. The company is leasing its rooftops to an unnamed service provider which owns, installs, and maintains the PV array. Japan Display explained that this allows SE to have preferential solar output access and a more negligible up-front system cost.
According to a report by Renewables Now, the Japanese company also has a rooftop solar system on its unit in Tottori prefecture. It aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
