Japanese power utility Jera Co and ReNew Energy Global Plc, an Indian renewable energy company, will assess the potential for jointly producing green ammonia in Paradip, in the Indian state of Odisha.
This involves a study evaluating the project’s commercial viability. If the results are positive, the companies will install a production facility that makes roughly 100,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually by 2030.
The manufacturing will be underpinned by 500 MW of high-capacity utilisation factor (CUF) renewable energy capacity. Jera will have the right to export the green ammonia volumes to Japan.
Yukio Kani, Jera’s Global CEO, noted, “This joint development agreement represents a significant milestone and an exciting advancement, moving us one step closer to realising a decarbonised society, with a focus on the sustainability, affordability, and stability of future energy.”
