- JinkoSolar is building a 7GW solar wafer factory in Vietnam.
- The factory will supply components to its Malasia and U.S. assembly facilities.
- Jinko is diversifying production to avoid supply chain disruptions.
Chinese PV module producer JinkoSolar has started constructing a $500 million ingot and wafer manufacturing facility in Vietnam’s Quang Ninh province. The factory is expected to start operations within six months, supplying Jinko’s cell and module assembly factories in Malaysia and the United States.
JinkoSolar states that its new 7GW factory began construction in late 2020, before the ongoing trade issue with the United States. The company adds that the factory is part of its plan to diversify components production globally. The company stated that while overseas supply chains often incur higher costs, the investment will help assuage developers and off-takers’ concerns about supply chain security.
