A 100 MW solar power facility in Fukushima City has been connected to the grid by a joint venture between the German project developer JUWI and the Japanese competitor Shizen Energy. The plant was then promptly turned over to its operator.
JUWI Shizen Energy created the Azuma Kofuji solar park on 186 hectares of primarily abandoned farmland in its capacity as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) supplier. The distance between the region and the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear reactor is around 80 kilometres.
The largest project in the JV’s history is Azuma Kofuji, according to the statement. Since its founding ten years ago, it has completed 602 MW of projects and has 140 MW more under construction.
The plant’s construction began in August 2020, and the first electricity was produced and sent into the grid by the end of September 2022. The facility can now produce roughly 107 million kWh annually.
