- KAPSCO plans to deploy mini-grid in 38 communities.
- The Company also plans to deploy 80kW to power public schools.
- The Company has deployed 2.3MW in public healthcare facilities.
Kaduna State Power Supply Company (KAPSCO) says it has deployed clean energy solutions across several sectors in the state. The Company noted that it had supplied reliable power solutions to over 250 Primary Healthcare Centres and provided about 1,300 solar-powered streetlights to improve night-time economy and security in inter-state bus parks over the past five years.
According to the Company’s managing director, Dolapo Popoola, who disclosed this, the organization’s goal is to increase electricity access, especially in off-grid communities, develop independent power projects, power public buildings, and effectively maintain solar streetlights. She added that over the past two years, KAPSCO had saved about ₦400 million in electricity bills through its Electricity Bill Management System (EBMS), implemented two phases of the Solar for Health Program, which installed 2.3MW of solar capacity across 47 locations to increase access to healthcare for over 233,000 people and launched the Solar for All programme, a consumer financing scheme to help over 70,000 public servants afford solar energy.
Popoola also noted that KAPSCO is currently working with its partners to complete a feasibility study for the deployment of solar in 38 communities. The systems will provide customized, productive-use, off-grid power solutions that will power economic activities in the state. Popoola also added that the Company is looking to provide 80kW of solar energy to power computer labs in 16 public schools.
