Former President owes ₦6 million in debt
- Debt has been unpaid since 2018
- Surety commits to settling the bill
The home of the former late President Shehu Shagari was, on January 20th, disconnected by Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDC). The late President’s home was disconnected due to the failure to pay for electricity bills as far back as 2018 following his death.
The Spokesman of the Distribution Company (DisCo), Abdulaziz Abdullahi, confirmed the disconnection. He, however, noted that the home was reconnected the same day. A family member in reaction stated that following the death of the late President, the Sokoto state government stopped payments for electricity bills. The state government said the welfare of the late President was the duty of the Federal Government.
The home was reconnected following the commitment of a surety (who wished to remain anonymous) to pay the debt.
