KENYA: Consumers Decry Prolonged Blackout

Residents in Magana North of Suba North Constituency have decried the prolonged blackout affecting the area that has affected businesses, schools, medical services and others. Ugina Health Centre and Solko Dispensary located in the affected are currently dealing with the blackout’s impact. Critical services such as laboratory operations, vaccine storage, maternity services have been put on in the past three weeks.

Chief Bernard Ochieng Oloo, speaking on behalf of the residents, said the community has been unable to receive medical services when needed. He added that expectant mothers had been forced to look for alternate healthcare centres for their maternity needs. In addition, due to lack of electricity, immunization for kids has been impossible as the vaccines could not be preserved as required due to the blackout.

A representative of Kenya Power has said that efforts are ongoing to restore supply to the affected locations. He assured that the company would restore supply during the week as he pleaded for patience from the consumers.
