- Fuel prices hit a two year high
- Consumers to pay more for electricity as electricity prices surge
Electricity consumers in Kenya are set to pay higher electricity charges following a record two-year high increase in fuel cost. Kenya’s electricity sector is largely dependent on fuel for the generation of electricity. On Friday, Kenya’s Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) increased the fuel surcharge from Sh2.92 per kilowatt hour (kWh) to Sh3.63. This has been the highest increase since May 2019.
”All prices for electrical energy specified in Part II of the said schedule will be liable to a fuel energy cost charge of plus 363 Kenya cents per kWh for all meter readings to be taken in June 2021”, the EPRA stated in a recent notice.
The rise in fuel prices is expected to impact the cost of electricity and the expenses of households and businesses.
