- Kenya Power disconnects electricity supply in Marsabit town
- The county government owes over KSh20 million
- Reneges on the agreement to offset the debt of the last three years
Kenya Power, the state-owned utility, has disconnected Marsabit town over the failure of the county government to pay over KSh20 million in electricity bills. On Tuesday, Kenya Power Marsabit County Manager, Roba Wario, stated that the utility was forced to disconnect the town following the failure of the Marsabit County government in keeping to its promise to offset its electricity debt for the last three years.
“We appeal to the county government to settle the outstanding debts to enable us to serve the residents of Marsabit efficiently,” Wario said.
The disconnection has also plunged the whole town into darkness, affecting other essential services such as water supply. As a result, residents are forced to pay more for water from private water service operators.
