Load shedding to occur in parts of Western Region
- KETRACO to begin construction of Olkaria – Lessos Kisumu project
- Project to increase transmission capacity in the region
Kenya Power has issued a Load Shedding timetable for areas in Kisunmu in the Western Region of Kenya. The outages took effect on Monday 24th and will last for 6 hours from 12 pm – 6 pm. The outages will allow the Kenyan Transmission Company (KETRACO) to upgrade the high voltage Olkaria – Lessos transmission line.
“We wish to inform our customers that power supply will be interrupted in parts of Western Region on Monday, May 24, 2021, to enable construction works for the proposed Olkaria-Lessos-Kibos 400kV line being undertaken by the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO)”, the statement read.
According to the statement, the upgrade will enhance capacity and supply to the affected areas when completed. “The power line will enhance power capacity, and improve the quality and reliability of supply in the region”, the statement read.
The project, valued at Ksh16 billion, will be undertaken in three phases. Phase one involves constructing a 229km 400kV double circuit transmission line from the Olkaria II to Lessos substation.
