KENYA: Kenya Power Launches 33/11kV Substation

The Kenyan energy utility, Kenya Power has completed the construction of a brand new 33/11kV substation in Mtondia, Kilifi County. The substation will boost the supply as well as cater to the growing customer population in the Kilifi area.

Through the Kenya Electricity Modernisation Project (KEMP), Kenya Power seeks to improve electricity supply in the country. The KEMP comprises four construction projects at a total cost of $11.7 million. To be constructed under this project are the Sabaki, Kaloleni, and Kokotoni 33/11kV substations.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kenya Power Bernard Ngugi while at the project launch said, “These new investments will improve the quality of power being supplied to the residents of Kilifi County and its environs given its exponential growth in the last eight years”. He further noted that Kilifi county has seen a 260% growth in customer numbers and an improvement in electricity access from 21% to 71%.
