KENYA: Two Charged to Court for Illegal Connection

Two suspects have been charged to the Kibera Law Court on charges of illegal connection and meter theft. The suspects, private developers, stand accused of illegally connecting their private apartment in Nairobi to electricity. They were charged in contravention of the Kenyan Energy Act and handling of restricted electrical equipment.

The charges against them include stealing a prepaid meter from Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) and the possession and handling of stolen metering equipment. The suspects worked alongside an electrical worker who connected electricity to the apartments without the consent of KPLC.

The suspects were denied the charges and were granted bail.
