Kenya Airways has inked an agreement to purchase 40 electric flying taxis (eVTOLs) with two Brazilian companies, UAM, LLC, a subsidiary of Eve Holding, Inc., and a carve-out of Embraer S.A. The technology used by eVTOL aircraft allows them to hover, take off, and land vertically.
To establish and build the Urban Air Mobility (UAM) market and a business model for cargo drone operations in Kenya, the three parties to the agreement will collaborate on research through a working group. Deliveries on the project are scheduled to begin in 2026.
The deployment of flying cars, according to Allan Kilavuka, Group Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Kenya Airways, will position the airline as the regional leader in urban air mobility, which is the future of transportation.
“The journey to realise the dream of eVTOL vehicles in Kenya is on the course, and the partnership with EVE UAM, is a key achievement for us as part of the strategy to adopt new technologies as a growth strategy for the sustainable development of Africa,” he said.
According to Eve co-CEO Andre Stein, the agreement will increase both companies’ dedication to building the structures that sustainably support Kenya’s urban air mobility ecosystem.
