  • Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo praises the airline’s move, highlighting improved service, safety, and industry growth.
  • Xejet plans to serve key Nigerian cities like Lagos, Abuja, Kano, and Port Harcourt, with expansion based on market demand.

Xejet, a former charter airline, launched its scheduled commercial flights, significantly boosting Nigeria’s aviation industry. Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo praised the development at the airline’s inaugural flight event in Lagos over the weekend.

Keyamo highlighted Xejet’s move as a significant step for domestic air travel, promising improved service, safety, and capacity. He emphasised that the airline’s entry into the market will enhance passenger experiences and support industry growth.

“Xejet’s scheduled service highlights the resilience of Nigeria’s local airlines. It reflects our commitment to partnerships that drive aviation growth. This marks a new era for domestic air travel, with better service and safety for all,” Keyamo said.

He applauded Xejet for trusting the Nigerian market, calling it a decisive vote of confidence in its economy. Keyamo also noted that the airline’s expansion supports Nigeria’s goal of becoming a regional aviation hub.

“The Ministry of Aviation works to create an environment that supports airlines like Xejet. Their efforts will help improve air travel access and quality, which are crucial for the industry’s future,” he added.

At the event, Xejet’s CEO, Emmanuel Iza, outlined the airline’s plans to operate in major Nigerian cities, beginning with Lagos, Abuja, Kano, and Port Harcourt. Iza said that the airline aims to grow its network based on demand.

“We’re starting with four major cities but will expand as demand grows. We recently acquired an Embraer E190, currently undergoing inspection, and plan to begin flights with it on November 7, 2024,” Iza said.

Known for its luxury charter services, Xejet aims to maintain high standards for its scheduled flights. Iza assured that safety, comfort, and customer satisfaction will remain the airline’s top priorities.

“Our focus is on safety, comfort, and premium service. Whether it’s the 22-inch seats on our CRJs or the 16-18-inch seats on the Embraer 145, our service will always stand out,” Iza said.

Xejet’s entry into the commercial market comes when Nigeria works to improve domestic air travel. Keyamo affirmed the government’s support for airlines contributing to the sector’s growth and efficiency.

“Let’s continue working together for a more connected and brighter future for Nigerian aviation,” Keyamo concluded.

Xejet’s move into the scheduled flight market increases competition and improves service quality, offering passengers more choices for domestic travel. With solid backing from the Ministry of Aviation, the airline stands ready to play a vital role in shaping Nigeria’s air travel future.

This launch marks a positive shift for the aviation sector, a critical driver of economic growth and regional connectivity. Xejet’s commitment to high standards will raise the bar for other players, strengthening Nigeria’s position in the global aviation industry.
