Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo on Monday, October 20, launched the distribution and installation of 30 units of 500kVA transformers to boost electricity supply and support rural development across the state’s three senatorial districts.

At the Government House in Lokoja during the Phase One flag-off ceremony of the statewide rural electrification project, Ododo described the initiative as “a major step forward in fulfilling my promise to light up communities and empower the people.”

Ododo said the project responds directly to community requests submitted through the Ministry of Rural and Energy Development. He assured that the government prioritised every request, reflecting his administration’s commitment to the welfare of grassroots communities.

In addition, the governor stressed that the transformers’ distribution follows principles of fairness and equity, ensuring balanced development across all three senatorial districts. He added that the installations will support commerce, education, healthcare, agriculture, and overall quality of life.

“Electricity drives industry, powers education, strengthens healthcare, and improves community security. Every part of Kogi State matters,” Ododo said, urging residents to safeguard the transformers against vandalism.

Commissioner for Rural and Energy Development Abdulmutalib Mohammed said the ministry used technical assessments to prioritise communities and promised broader coverage in future project phases. He noted that the initiative will improve daily life and stimulate local business activities, commending the governor for addressing rural communities’ longstanding power challenges.
