Kogi State Begins Training of Youths in CNG Conversion

  • Kogi State and Sufpay Ltd launched a CNG conversion training for 2,310 youths to boost clean energy skills.
  • The initiative targets job creation, energy transition, and youth empowerment across 21 LGAs.

The Kogi State Government has launched a training programme for 2,310 youths in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion technology, aiming to accelerate clean energy adoption and tackle unemployment.

Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, disclosed the development on Thursday in Lokoja while addressing journalists. He said the initiative covers all 21 Local Government Areas of the state and aligns with the government’s drive to empower youth and diversify the economy.

“This marks a major step in fulfilling our campaign promise to create job opportunities and build technical capacity among young people,” Fanwo said. “We are training 2,310 youths in CNG conversion, a skill critical in Nigeria’s transition to cleaner energy.”

The programme, launched in partnership with Sufpay Ltd, equips participants with hands-on expertise in CNG conversion. It also aligns with the federal government’s broader agenda to reduce petrol dependence and promote alternative fuels.

Fanwo described the initiative as a strategic move to position Kogi for the evolving energy market. “CNG is the future. We are investing in our young people so they can thrive in this new era,” he said.

He added that the programme would also serve as a non-kinetic response to insecurity by actively engaging young people. “Our governor, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, remains committed to youth development. This initiative proves we are building the future around our most valuable resource, youth.”

Fanwo commended Sufpay Ltd for its technical support and commitment to the project, saying its involvement has been pivotal.

The training centres are located in Lokoja, Okene, Idah, and Kabba, allowing participants to learn in familiar environments. The decentralised structure is expected to encourage widespread participation and local impact.

The initiative aims to create a skilled workforce, reduce unemployment, and contribute to national energy goals by targeting technical empowerment in clean energy.
