The Lagos State government via the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has signed an agreement with Ikeja Electric and Sahara Power Group to distribute free prepaid meters to low-income areas in the state. The project’s pilot phase will see the deployment of 20,000 meters in the Alimosho Local Government Area of the state.
The state’s Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr Olalere Odusote, noted at the signing that the agreement would see an increase in the daily hours of electricity supplied to 22 hours in addition to improved metering and infrastructure deficit. He noted that the state government has already identified several feeders that can improve the power supply to 20,000 low-income households. Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company’s Managing Director Folake Soetan noted that the firm is ready to support the state in its bid to increase power supply to residents.
