- THE MCC and LEC have entered a partnership to fight electricity theft and expand electricity access.
- LEC will extend electricity access in Montserrado Country.
The Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) and the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) have partnered to combat electricity theft and expand electricity supply to other communities within Montserrado County. Monrovia City Mayor Jefferson Koijee stated that both corporations would commence removing billboards across the county to enable the LEC to run wires freely without causing problems.
On the other hand, the LEC welcomed the partnership. He noted that supplying electricity required navigating not only financial challenges but environmental and social issues. He noted that the corporation required assistance to provide electricity to all of the country’s citizens. The LEC also appreciated the efforts of the Liberian government, the European Union, and the World Bank in helping establish the partnership. The LEC added that they plan to extend the electricity supply to Virginia and beyond. These are areas that have not been electrified folleoingt the Liberian civil war. This partnership provides an opportunity for citizens on that side of Montserrado County to be electrified.
